Sagip Community Life Center (SAGIP CLC) Opens its Doors to Sampaloc

Sagip CLC had its formal opening last Sunday, 6 January 2018. The short program held at the clinic at the ground floor of the Trinorma Dormitory Building commenced with a ceremonial ribbon cutting led by one of the community members, Tatay Edong, followed by Pastor Abe Navarette and Pastor Dave Trinidad and Sagip board members Jean Fornoles and Dr. Beth Miana. Pastor Abe then lead the group in responsive prayer for the facility and the community.

Everyone shared in thanksgiving and praises as Dr. Richard Trinidad recounted the journey of Sagip from a vision out of a “dislocated heart for the poor” to the clinic everyone was seeing that day. It was a road full of miracles and affirmations of God’s faithfulness and His call to share the good news to the poor. Dr. Richard also emphasized that Sagip aims not just to be an ordinary clinic but a center that connects to people to bring them to Jesus.

Ms. Jean Fornoles then went on to recognize Sagip’s ministry partners, the many hands and hearts who willingly shared their resources to see the vision to its fulfillment. Among Sagip’s main partners are the Mary Johnston Hospital which will be the clinic’s referral center for patients needing hospital care and the Department of Social Welfare and Development who will be providing the names and locations of health care recipients.

Before everyone broke up for the prayer tour and refreshments, Pastor Dave Trinidad gave a short message on “Sagip-giving” saying that at its very heart is grace giving. This kind of giving is only possible, not because we are rich but because we have been enabled by the only real life-giver, Jesus Christ.

Looking at the merry faces of those in attendance, one can see how Sagip truly is a community endeavor. None can know nor limit those that contributed who came from different backgrounds and in various places both near and far— there was Dr. Glen, the CEO of Mary Johnston Hospital, Anamy Mijares and the community mothers who first did the community health survey, those that worked in the construction and building, promotional materials, upkeep and a myriad other little tasks, and the Sagip leaders who caught the vision and took those first steps of faith. Each can give because they have first been, in Pastor Dave’s term, Sagip-ed, saved and enabled by the overflowing grace of God.

‘Tis the season to be jolly?

Read: Luke 10:38-42

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

It can be said that Christmas is the biggest and grandest festive season in the Philippines. Lights, music and decorations start building up by September. Everyone is so busy coordinating, preparing and attending parties. Hence, being out of the country during this time of the year makes one miss home more.

Christmas is fun but it is also exhausting. For all the parties to organize, the gifts to buy and wrap, the food to cook, the place to clean, etc, etc…I found myself on my bed, trying to make up all my lost sleep. Oh yeah! Adulting is hard at its finest. However, amidst all these, aren’t we missing the One thing that matters most?

CHRISTmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ. Whilst we know it, we sometimes (or most of the time) forget it. Like Martha, we are so distracted doing the logistics that we overlook that this is also the time to sit and be reminded to be thankful that Christ came to this world to seek and save the lost, which is us!

Instead of making ourselves worry and upset ourselves on many things this season, may we choose the One that matters most, our personal time with Jesus Christ. While these things can still be done, may Christ be the overall Star of all your celebrations. Because more than 2000 years ago, He came for you and me so that we may have a life with the Father that will last a lifetime.

Jesus, always remind us that You are the reason of this season. May our Christmas be spent in honouring You and sharing Your love to those who doesn’t know You yet. Amen.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. – Matthew 1:21 (NIV)

Opening an Opportunity for Blessing: Canada Trip 2018

The ministry for the poor never stops. Jesus himself said that we will always have the poor with us (Mark. 14:7) and thus the opportunity for blessing them is ever present. It is always a privilege and responsibility for SAGIP to open these opportunities for believers to be a blessing.

Last July 2018, a team from SBCC travelled to Edmonton, Canada to present such opportunity and cause a channel of blessing to flow to communities even from thousands of miles away.

The ministry of SAGIP was presented to different churches across Edmonton with talks, videos and pamphlets to introduce people to the work being done for urban poor communities in Metro Manila. Part of the team were Pastor Dave Trinidad, Senior Pastor of SBCC and his wife, Nory Trinidad, their daughter Bea Trinidad, Dr. Richard Trinidad, and the young family of Eliel and Jenny Carlos with their two year old daughter, Andi.

The team was also able to talk to a small group from Southwest Bible Church in Portland, Oregon. This meeting resulted in the introduction of John and Jem Winquist from Hand of Hope Northwest who had access to donated medical equipment just waiting for a Christian health clinic. These equipment were suddenly on their way to Manila, filling up a 40-ft container!

After 20 days, the team was able to visit 3 Canadian churches and one bible study group in the US, bringing home provision for people that need them along with stories and full hearts from witnessing what God has done. This trip was indeed a testament to how God provides for the work that He purposed. What seems impossible for men is possible with God. Each of us is a piece of a puzzle completing his grand plan. All we have to do is to follow where He leads.
